Isn't fresh anymore.
It looks good in the shop but it's months old and the fact it has been iradiated makes it look fresh.
Soon as you get it home it starts to rot really fast.
I have been into cooking for a long time so I notice the difference.
Seems to me that the best veg in the shops now is frozen.

I've noticed this too Jack! I'm a chef and absolutely love to cook! and even though I can't eat and my knuckles are beginning to twist, I take my pain killers and get out my cookery books Very Happy they inspire me and then I decide I want to make dinner for my hub and Son Very Happy

I can't peel anything or open jars so now, my chef skills are being used to 'teach' my hub and Son's how to make a great dish! Very Happy

I noticed recently that a bag of parsnips I had bought just the day before had gone all rubbery! Sad I can't stand them like that! I love parsnip puree with a spoon of cranberry jelly! I can actually eat about 3/4 tablespoons! Smile but they just weren't fresh! not at all! No

What really gets my goat are the substandard onions that are in the shops these days.
Crappy undersized and not fresh.
A few years ago no decent shop would have carried such crap but they seem to be the norm now.
Thankfully we have farmers shops out here where the quality is top notch ...and not to pricey.

We go to the farm shop regularly! a whole sack of spuds for £5! Shocked

I go mostly for Mrs Darlington's Orange curd and Mrs Darlingtons Morrello cherry Jam! I have a spoonful straight from the jar! that's what's keeping me alive right now! that and coffee! Shocked

When I was young, we were pretty much self sufficient and grew almost everything and anything.

I grew up in wellies.

There's nothing like the taste of freshly dug up or picked fruit & veg. Very Happy
